TRADITIONS & SUPERSTITIONS

Superstition

su·per·sti·tion n.
An irrational belief that an object, action, or circumstance not logically related to a course of events influences its outcome.

1. A belief, practice, or rite irrationally maintained by ignorance of the laws of nature or by faith in magic or chance.
2. A fearful or abject state of mind resulting from such ignorance or irrationality.
3. Idolatry.

Did you know...

It was thought unlucky for a woman to marry a man whose surname began with the same letter as her own. This was summarize in the following rhyme:

To change the name and not the letter
Is to change for the worst and not the better

What were they thinking? Honestly. To think, how many really lost out on true love because they followed this to heart. Today brides-to-be are more than thrilled to be joined with the man of their dreams and sharing the same initials are an added bonus.

What are your thoughts? I love to read them.

What An Honor!

2009 Bride's Choice Awards presented by WeddingWire | Wedding Cakes, Wedding Venues, Wedding Photographers & More

WeddingWire, the nation’s leading wedding technology company, just announced that Lisa Michelle Event Planner has won the 2009 Bride’s Choice Awards™!

In its inaugural year, the Bride’s Choice Awards recognizes and honors vendors from the WeddingWire Network that demonstrate excellent quality of service, responsiveness, professionalism, value of cost and flexibility. This year’s recipients represent the top three percent of WeddingWire’s vendor community, which includes over 100,000 wedding vendors from across the US. That means we are one of the very best wedding planners in our region.

I was excited and thrilled to receive this award of recognition (I have printed out a really cool copy to place on my desk, so when meeting with potential clients they can view it). Although often challenging, this road that I am on is one of great rewards. I have been blessed with the opportunity to have meet and worked with so many wonderful couples and their families. That is truly an honor in itself. I thank God for the strength and desire to push forward. Furthermore, I thank my clients and pray a successful and happy marriage for each of them. To the vendors who have worked seamlessly and with great effort to make my clients' memories great ones. To my colleagues in the industry who have also received this prestigious award; I commend you.

Onward to 2009-2010, let the planning begin...

Unique Styles for your Bridesmaids' Unique Style

Introducing Guest Blogger Bonnie Beck of Bonitaj.com

You've selected those special ladies to stand next to you on your most memorable day and that's because they've been there for you through it all. There is a perfect gift idea that most brides add to their wedding to do lists as part of the wedding preparations and that's bridesmaid jewelry. Many times the jewelry you give your bridesmaids to wear to the wedding is their "Thank You" gift from the happy couple for sharing in their special occasion. You can take that gift idea and make it more personal, without stamping a monogrammed letter on it.

Every woman generally loves receiving jewelry. It's an even better gift when it's jewelry that you can wear after the wedding to other special events or to dress up that favorite outfit. Incorporating your bridesmaids unique style into their bridesmaid jewelry can be both beneficial to you and your maids. Working within the same color palate as your wedding colors allows you to find bridesmaid jewelry that both coordinates with your wedding colors, but looks fabulous on your maids, because they are comfortable within their own style.

One way of coordinating your colors into their bridesmaid jewelry is to select, for example, the same exact necklace or bracelet for all of your maids. Find a design that lends itself well to all sizes and shapes. The best way is to select a necklace or bracelet that offers an extension chain. This way you are sure to fit all sizes within one single product purchase.

Next, select a different pair of earrings for each bridesmaid that reflects their own style. You may be thinking this will look unorganized and not right. However, if you select the same color scheme throughout each pair of earrings, you will have a different style for each maid, but the same color palate that will bring their looks all together, but uniquely. For the bridesmaid that doesn't wear a lot of jewelry, select a simple drop style that's not over the top or flashy. For the bridesmaid that wears big hoops and bright, bold jewelry, select clustered or chandelier earrings. These styles will all add a dramatic and elegant touch, all within your own color scheme.

After weddings, most brides and bridesmaids dry clean their gowns and pack them away with all of the other wedding accessories. With bridal and bridesmaid jewelry that is customized to a person's uniqueness and own style, you don't have to pack away those gems. This is a gift idea that keeps on giving when your bridesmaids wear those sparkly gifts to their next party or celebration.

Running of the Brides

Also known for the huge savings on designer items, this department store produces a once of year event (twice in Boston), where Brides can find designer gowns at a fraction of the cost. Often the wait is tedious, and apprehension is no doubt at a high on the scale, but well worth it.

In each of the selected cities thousands of brides-to-be gather with their family members and friends to grab as many gowns as they can , usually in record time (less than one minute). The next step is to try on the gowns, and then the swapping begins.

To participate in this grand event visit the Filene's Basement website to find out about the dates & times of an event near you. Prepare and discuss your strategy with your helpers, eat a hearty breakfast and dress comfortably. Preferably sweats, or clothes that are easily removed without much fuss or hassle. Wishing you much success in finding your Dream Dress!

Happy Planning!

Tagged?! Again

Last week I was tagged by one of my colleagues, the Lovely Landra of Eventistas.

I was instructed to:

1) Choose a minimum of 7 blogs that you find brilliant in content or design
2) Show the 7 winners names and links on your blog, and leave a comment informing them that they were prized with "Honest Scrap." Well, there's no prize, but they can keep the nifty icon :)
3) List at least 10 honest things about yourself

Without further adieu here are 10 things about me:
10. I love all things Superman. Huge Smallville fan. I've collected all sets to date.
9. I love chocolate covered pretzels. So If you're going to give me a gift, it should be that.
8. I don't like the winter time. Too many layers!
7. I love reading medical mystery novels.
6. I don't have cable TV.
5. I'm a Gemini.
4. I am a Vocational Counselor by day, and a Planner by night.
3. I love to laugh.
2.I aspire to work full time doing the very thing that I love, planning weddings & special events.
1. I am a devoted mother, to the cutest little man child on the face of the earth.

So, here's the deal. Since the last time I was tagged, I've been on home base ever since. Not to mention the numerous amount of really great blogs out there, I am truly unable to narrow it down.

Cheers!

A Day in the Life

..........and shoes of a Wedding Planner.

It's no wonder that I love what I do. I am passionate toward the cause of making my clients dreams come true. Although at times challenging, my career is very rewarding. As many of you know and for those of you who do not, I have been doing this for quite some time (the business), and no matter what obstacles have come my way, still I rise.

It's so important to have your dreams harnessed in more than just the glitz and the glam. Yet rooted with a realistic approach, hard work, perseverance, and knowingthat with faith nothing is impossible. It's with these things, above all, faith that you can achieve anything you put your heart and mind to. My goal is to instill this in each person that I come into contact with. Business and Personal. Faith is the antidote that cures all "cant's" and "impossibilities".

So when challenges arise, I look back at all of my dreams that have come to pass to date. And with that same passion and drive that has bought me through, I push forward in spite of. Stronger. Wiser. Better. So when others tell you that you can't do what you want or if they feel that it's not within the stars, allow your mind to become impervious to their doubt; only to strive harder and reach higher.

Remember your dreams are your dreams, and no one has the power to take them from you, except you.
